Roelof Postmaa, Sr. founded Image Tours Inc., as Emhage Travel in the Netherlands in 1939. The name Emhage stands for the Dutch pronunciation of the letters M H G. These letters form the acronym, 'Maximum Vacantievreugd, Hoogste Comfort, Geringste Kosten'. Freely translated, this means 'the most satisfaction and best quality in travel for less money'.
Emhage began U.S. operations as a tour operator in 1960. Roelof Postmaa, Jr. was an exchange student in Grand Rapids, Michigan and organized the first Heart of Europe® tours for students and faculty while attending college. In addition to being a successful tour operator in its native country, Emhage Amsterdam began working with Emhage Tours USA on the company's specialty, the organization of tours of Europe for American groups.
In 1979, after many years in a downtown office, Emhage purchased its own building and soon became fully computerized in order to serve its growing clientele. Emhage began advertising nationwide in the 1980's and started selling the ever popular Heart of Europe® Tour through travel agents. Soon after, Emhage Tours became Image Tours in the hopes that the new name would be eaiser for clients to remember as the company pursued new advertising media.
In 1999, Image Tours moved its headquarters to a beautiful, new location where the staff continues to pursue an excellent reputation in the travel industry.
In the summer of 2000, Image applied for membership to the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA). After a demanding interview process, the company was accepted and is one of only 62 active members.
Over the last 66 years, Image Tours has expanded its product line to include tours to many popular destinations in Western Europe. Our current brochure features many tours ranging from 11 to 22 days in length.
Among travelers and travel agents alike, Image Tours strives to maintain the reputation it has earned for courteous and precise service, high quality tours, in-depth traveler preparation and guidance.
Image Tours currently partners with over 400 travel agents through co-op advertising in newspapers throughout the United States.
